this makes me think we need a real reusable spacecraft.

with everyone and his brother having the ability to loft a satellite, we’re just going to see more and more collisions. the more crap we toss skyward and don’t take down when the utility is ended, the closer we get to an ablation cascade or Donald Kessler’s “Kessler Syndrome.”

with the coming retirement of the Space Shuttle, we will be left without any way to go up and collect defunct orbital installations or satellites. which really doesn’t seem a good idea now, does it?

there are countries and companies working on reusable spacecraft, however, so there is hope that somebody will be able to do some cleaning up.
