the Gulf Coast in mind today.

i lived in Galveston for about three years, and though i no longer know anyone resident there, i do have family in Houston.

the “certain death” warning is no joke. if a major hurricane hits Galveston dead-on or to the southwest, the west end of the island stands a good chance of being scoured clean. downtown, protected by the seawall, will probably come through o.k. (albeit under water). the 1900 and 1915 storms were both brutal, with the 1900 storm (locally called “The Flood”) still the deadliest storm to hit the US.

so maybe say a little prayer today, if you get the chance? there’s definitely folks that need it.

quote of the day:

“Texas has yet to learn submission to any oppression, come from what source it may.” – Sam Houston
