won’t you be my neighbor?

i cannot believe i forgot this. shows how fried my brain is these days, i guess.

last Tuesday, February 19, was the 40th anniversary of the inaugural broadcast of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. a staple of many childrens’ television habits, Fred Rogers was a cheerful and non-threatening adult who dealt honestly with his viewers on many subjects. death, divorce, war – all of these things were carefully and honestly discussed on his show.

thankfully, though Mr. Rogers is gone, his show still lives on in reruns.

quote of the day:

“I have really never considered myself a TV star. I always thought I was a neighbor who just came in for a visit.” – Fred Rogers
