fifty years…

of LEGO.

talk about forever young!

what is really impressive about LEGO is its ability to cross national and cultural boundaries – it’s one of the most popular toys in the world, with around 62 bricks for every man, woman and child on the planet. not only that, but the original brick will interface with a brand new one even today. Ole Kirk Christiansen sure got it right the first time.

now, “vintage” bricks and instructions bring big bucks on eBay, and there are LEGO video games, LEGO theme parks, LEGO robotics and engineering competitions, you name it. heck, i’ve taken college-level LEGO classes. (supposedly they were programming and engineering classes, but we sure spent most of the time playing with LEGO).

Bosch even made a dishwasher designed to clean LEGO. that’s what i call market influence.

happy birthday, brick!
