people are strange.

and i don’t necessarily mean that in a good way.

what ever happened to the whole idea of accepting people who were different?

some news stories that have brought this to mind lately:

  • Melissa Arrington, a Tuscon resident, killed a man while driving drunk under a suspended license (for driving drunk, apparently) – and then laughed about it. she was sentenced to a whopping ten years in prison. as a cyclist (heck, as a driver) this really bothers me – not just the fact our legal system seems horrendously weak on drunk/drug driving, but that there are people out on the roads with me so callous that they don’t seem to care who they kill with the weapons they are driving.
  • a couple in West Yorkshire were “hounded” off a bus and insulted by the bus driver for the way they were dressed. while i find their lifestyle choice somewhat unusual, they’re not harming anyone. and while i also can understand the safety concerns of the bus company, calling customers names (as the driver allegedly did) is no way to go about maintaining customer safety.

if you’re voting today, i believe that maybe it’s something to think about. something to consider in November, too.

that, and try to remember that just because they look or act different than you, that doesn’t make them any less someone’s child or someone’s friend.

      quote of the day:

Love is but a song we sing
and fear’s the way we die,
You can make the mountains ring
      or make the angels cry,
Tho’ the bird is on the wing
and you may not know why.

      C’mon people, now
      smile on your brother,
      ev’ry-body get together,
try to love one another right now.

Some will come and some will go
      and we shall surely pass
When the one that left us here
      returns for us at last
We are but a moments sunlight
      fading in the grass.

      C’mon people, now
      smile on your brother,
      ev’ry-body get together,
try to love one another right now.

If you hear the song I sing
      you will understand
You hold the key to love and fear
      in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both,
      it’s there at your command.

      C’mon people, now
      smile on your brother,
      ev’ry-body get together,
try to love one another right now.
