another legend gone…

and this time, it’s Bobby Fischer.

though i don’t play chess anymore, no longer having the rigid mental structure that let me have any “skill” at all, i still remember chess club and watching computer replays of famous matches – some of which were of Fischer’s memorable defeat of Boris Spassky in 1972. while i never wanted to be like him, i certainly admired his brilliance at the chessboard.

though Fischer was not a pleasant man, and possibly not even a good one, he was certainly a legend.
