i’m sure this is just more proof that i’m odd…

but i think the bakfiets is the pimpest bicycle ever.

however, as much as i would like one, the $3500 price tag (after shipping) is far more than i can afford. i’ve never paid that much for a car, and those don’t make you tired.

well, ok, they can, but not the same way.

yet i am still enamoured with the utility bike concept. i’ve been using my ‘cross bike as my transportation three days a week – while it’s fairly effective, it’s not as utility-oriented as i would like.

i’ve got an IRO frame on order to build a single-speed commuter, but that won’t show up for at least another two months. and then i’ll have to build it up.

and, as much as i look forward to the simplicity of a singlespeed for my city bike, i still like gears.

so i’m sorely tempted by the Xtracycle hitchless trailer kit. it would go rather nicely on my vintage mountain bike (which spent several years as a utility bike already). sadly, it’s also $400! which doesn’t include the cost of the new brakeset i’d want to handle the extra (loaded) weight, the new fork and headset i already want for that bike, or just the fact i’d be unlikely to use it (honesty sucks sometimes, you know?)…

oh well.

quote of the day:

“He neither drank, smoked, nor rode a bicycle. Living frugally, saving his money, he died early, surrounded by greedy relatives. It was a great lesson to me.” – John Barrymore
